Instructional Laboratory Technician III

USC’s Viterbi School, Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, is seeking an Instructional Laboratory Technician III to join its team.
JOB SUMMARY:
Provides laboratory technical expertise services for instructional labs. Maintains laboratory facilities and prepares equipment and materials for lab instruction.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Performs specialized tests and designs experiments for the instructional laboratories as needed.
Works with specialized equipment used in Material Sciences, Nanotechnology and Petroleum instructional laboratories.
Constructs, adapts or acquires specialized lab equipment to meet specific instruction needs. Repairs and maintains equipment.
Schedules and oversees setups and equipment operation to be used in instructional laboratories.
Instructs and supervises staff, students and lecturers in the use of specialized equipment.
Ensures compliance with all laboratory and cleanroom safety protocols.
Controls and monitors supply inventories. Approves supply orders and negotiates directly with vendors as appropriate.
Prepares chemical solutions and handles the collection of waste disposal in accordance with safety guidelines.
This is a 75% benefits eligible position. Work hours will be arranged based on the department laboratories’ schedule.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related field with 1 year of experience preferable in a school, college or university setting. Must have experience in the area of instruction providing strong knowledge of the different areas of study. A working knowledge of computers and specialized laboratory equipment is necessary.
Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry and 3 years experience is preferred.
