The purpose of this position is to provide advanced scientific support to the Materials and Engineering Physics Program at the Ames Laboratory (USDOE) in the area of computational and experimental thermodynamics. Working primarily in the area of "Structure and Chemistry of Materials" the duties of the person holding this position will include experimental investigation of thermodynamic properties of alloys, solution-based thermodynamic modeling and assessment of multicomponent phase equilibria, first principles calculations of thermodynamic quantities for alloy phases, preparation of manuscripts for journal publication, and the presentation of results at national/international conferences. Required qualifications include: Ph.D. in an appropriate field of physical science such as materials science, physics, or chemistry with research-related experience in computational multicomponent solution therodynamics. Experience must include solution of thermodynamics techniques for the computational modeling and assessment of phase equilibria; experimental techniques for the measurement of thermodynamic properties; and materials characterization and associated techniques of microchemical analysis. Salary minimum of $45,381, commensurate with qualifications. Applications must be submitted on-line to www.iastatejobs.com, vacancy #070348.
