At Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) we are seeking a Senior Consultative Metallurgist to work in our leading edge gas and electric testing facility in San Ramon. This position will require up to 30% travel and will give an opportunity to be highly visible with our clientele at our Hydro, Nuclear, Gas, Fleet and Electric Power Generation facilities.
SENIOR CONSULTATIVE METALLURGIST
Responsibilities:
1. Client Management: Consulting experience is a plus, excellent communication skills (oral and written) are essential. Successful candidates should work well with others and have a client focus. Job requires developing and promoting strong client relationships, having a can do attitude and being sensitive to client issues.
2. Job Management: Plan and direct laboratory development projects and major Failure Analysis projects as well as administer outside contract work effectively. Experience with job development including scope definition, schedule and cost estimates are crucial
3. Technical Skills: Perform industrial failure analysis of a wide variety of company materials and equipment. Provide materials specification, heat treatment, surface condition, and repair recommendations. Apply knowledge of non-destructive examination techniques as needed.
4. Safety: Demonstrate safe working practices at all times. Advocate focus on customer, general public and employee safety in all work practices. (Essential)
ESSENTIAL/REQUIRED:
BS Materials Engineering degree required (or equivalent degree),
5 years minimum in a Materials Engineering role with a focus on Metallurgy and failure analysis, failure mechanisms (EG: Corrosion). Also must have been in a Materials Service consultative role for a period of 5 years.
The ability to travel up to 30% of the job.
MARGINAL/DESIRED:
PE registration desired. Experience in working in combined cycle power plants, Gas Pipelines, or Nuclear Power plants is a plus
