MARKET DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER
Olin Brass, the worldwide leader in the manufacture of high quality brass, copper, and high performance copper base alloys for the automotive and electronics industry has an entry-level position open in Market Development Engineering.
Position Requirements
B.S. or M.S. in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Present a professional image and have desire for technical marketing.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Willing to travel (5-10 nights per month) after complete in-house training program.
Computer skills.
Intern or Co-op experience related to Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science desired.
Orientation and Training (Not Inclusive)
Complete in-house training in all aspects of copper alloy metallurgy, manufacturing and metal product fabrication. Training in marketing to develop product and business knowledge as it relates to customers, competition and market development.
Time will be spent with each of the Olin Brass product areas (Mill Products, Fabricated Products, Somers Thin Strip, and Metals Research Laboratories). Products will be followed through the manufacturing process to learn first-hand about the product.
Familiarization with typical product requirements and technical concepts.
Major Activities:
Must become familiar with properties and applications of all Olin Brass alloys and competitive products, including other copper alloys, plastic, aluminum, steel and stainless steel in order to interface with customer’s engineering groups to determine optimum products.
Keep abreast of new alloy development, new process, technology and applications for Olin Brass alloys. Advise sales representatives and customers of properties on standard, high performance and new alloys.
Work as a team with other marketing departments, analyze the marketplace, forecast sales and sources of sales. Attend technical conferences/trade shows and review new product potential for Olin Brass. Help develop technical literature.
Maintain a working knowledge of influence on the market, pricing, distribution, service, alternative materials, and future directions to recognize opportunities for new and expanded markets.
Maintain close working relationship with marketing, manufacturing, and the customer, representing the interests and problems of each when necessary.
Location
Position will be located at the East Alton, Illinois plant. Olin Brass is one of the largest manufacturing facilities in the St. Louis Metro Area. East Alton is located just north of St. Louis on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River.
