The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state public agency responsible for promoting transportation and commerce, operating some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the region including bridges, tunnels, bus terminals, airports, PATH, AirTrain systems, the NY/NJ seaport, and the WTC site.
We currently have an opening for a Materials Engineer in the Engineering Department’s Materials Engineering Division. In this position you will be responsible for performing construction materials research, materials laboratory and field-testing, and condition surveys of concrete, asphalt, soils and steel. Knowledge of ACI, ASTM and AASHTO standards, and hands-on familiarity with inspection and testing procedures and equipment required for quality assurance acceptance of Portland cement concrete, asphalt, soils and steel.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Chemistry or Technology
Demonstrated problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
Demonstrated ability to investigate new construction material and recommend innovations, where appropriate, is needed
Superior oral communication, written communication and presentation skills are required
Possess a valid driver’s license
Must be able to obtain security clearances for restricted areas
Computer skills
Certifications:
American Concrete Institute (ACI) – Field Grade I, Laboratory Grade I and Concrete Construction Special Inspector
New Jersey Society of Asphalt Technologist (NJSAT) – Asphalt Plant Technologist Levels I and II
National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (N.I.C.E.T.) Geotechnical Levels I-III
The degree requirement may be waived if the candidate possesses most or all of the above certifications, and is in the process of obtaining one of the stated degrees.
